SMS Architects partnered with West Hive Capital to reimagine the aging Fairmont Square Shopping Center into Fairmont Place—a dynamic, pedestrian-focused Lifestyle Center in the heart of San Leandro. This repositioning effort focused on transforming a traditional retail environment into a vibrant, experience-driven destination, incorporating SMS’s HoloSpaces Initiative to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor environments, community gathering, and commerce. The design embraces adaptive reuse, upgraded public realm elements, and flexible tenant formats, ensuring long-term viability and community relevance.
