Announcing the Retirement of Greg Simonoff, Founding Partner, Principal, & CEO of SMS Architects

After an extraordinary career in architecture and firm leadership, SMS Architects announces the retirement of Greg Simonoff, CEO, Founding Partner, and Principal.

Greg co-founded SMS Architects back in 2009 with a vision grounded in design excellence and thoughtful leadership. Throughout his career, he oversaw a diverse portfolio of project types but grew a deep passion for cinema design.

Prior to founding SMS Architects, Greg held leadership roles at MBH Architects, where he served as Director of Retail and Mixed-Use in Newport Beach, California, and a Principal at MGA Architects in Irvine, California. These experiences helped shape his expertise in complex projects and informed the strategic approach he brought to SMS Architects from its earliest days.

A graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Greg earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree and went on to become a licensed Architect in 21 states. He is NCARB certified and an active member of ICSC and AIA, reflecting his commitment to professional standards and industry leadership.

Beyond his impressive credentials, Greg’s most enduring impact is the culture and foundation he helped build at SMS Architects. His leadership, mentorship, and steady guidance have influenced countless projects and professionals, leaving a legacy that will continue to shape the firm’s work for many years to come.

As Greg enters retirement, we extend our sincere gratitude for his vision, dedication, and many contributions to SMS Architects and the architectural/design community. We wish him continued success and fulfillment in this well-deserved next chapter.

Please join us in congratulating Greg Simonoff on an exceptional career and thanking him for the lasting impact he has made.

With love,

Your SMS Architects Family
